Turkmenistan and Russia to expand cooperation in trade and healthcare

The topic was raised at a meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian commission on economic cooperation.

On March 30, Moscow hosted a meeting of the co-chairs of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian commission on economic cooperation. During the negotiations, agreements on the development of partnerships in trade and healthcare were signed, as reported by the press office of the MFA of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen side was represented by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Russian side was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.

During the meeting, it was noted that the volume of trade turnover between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan amounted to about 1 billion dollars in 2020. Attention was paid to the importance of cooperation between Ashgabat and the regions of Russia. Participants of the meeting also discussed the issue of attracting foreign businessmen to the work of the intergovernmental commission.

The parties exchanged views on the possibilities of strengthening ties between the countries in the spheres of industry, mechanical engineering, energy, transport and communications, the financial and banking sector, scientific and educational fields.

During the meeting, several agreements on expanding interregional ties, exchanging statistical data on mutual trade, information on the customs value of goods that move between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan were signed. Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan signed an agreement on cooperation in the implementation of international health regulations. An agreement on cooperation between the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan and PJSC Transcapitalbank was signed as well.
