Elections of members of new chamber of parliament held in Turkmenistan

The political event was attended by 231 electors. 112 candidates ran for 48 seats.

On March 28, the first elections of members of the Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh (one of the chambers of the new parliament) were held in all provinces and the capital of Turkmenistan. A total of 112 candidates were registered. The results of an important political event will be promulgated soon, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

The elections were held at the meetings of the halk maslahaty of the provinces and Ashgabat. 231 electors took part in the corresponding process (about 38 representatives in each region and capital).

Six polling stations started to work at 10 am. 2-3 people ran for each of the 48 mandates. The process was realized on the basis of the secret ballot and indirect suffrage. The transparency of the elections was monitored by 440 national observers.

According to the online media Jeyhun News, the corresponding vote in the Lebap province was held in the regional library. The Turkmenabat city and etrap halk maslahaty nominated 18 candidates instead of eight people. The names of 21 candidates were nominated at the session of the Balkan and etrap halk maslahaty, as reported by online media Balkantm.NEWS. Their biographies were published in the local newspaper «Balkan».

The voting process was presented online at saylav.gov.tm.

The Halk Maslahaty is one of the two chambers of the new parliament of Turkmenistan. The state body will include 56 people — 8 members from each province and the capital, as well as 8 representatives appointed by the head of the state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
