Residents of Turkmenistan widely celebrate International Novruz Day. Festivities are held in all parts of the country. The main events took place on the bank of the Karakum River in the capital — Ashgabat. An ancient Turkmen city was recreated, and a concert was organized there, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today» on March 21.
The Turkmen national way of life was recreated in detail. It included rituals, yurts, trestle-bed carpets, exhibition pavilions that look like trade stalls that existed in ancient times in eastern bazaars.
The event was attended by representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, several state departments, public organizations, and journalists. At the main entrance, they were greeted by children and an artist playing Magtymguly Pyragy.
At the festive event, dance numbers were demonstrated. These were dances of dervishes, kushtdepdi, and other peoples celebrating the spring holiday.
Exhibitions of carpet and textile products, museum valuables, women’s handicrafts, books by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and an agricultural exposition were also organized for the guests.
Folklore ensembles demonstrated a staged process of making the main ritual treat for Novruz — semen. The festivity was complemented with performances by bakhshies, drummers, and equilibrists. Berdimuhamedov’s congratulatory message was read out in a solemn atmosphere.
In addition, a concert on the main stage was held. It was bordered by 14 yurts (symbolizing the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat). The corresponding program included literary-musical and folklore-ethnographic compositions, folk and modern songs.
It should be noted that such events are organized in all administrative centers of the provinces of Turkmenistan. Celebration of Novruz will continue tomorrow.
