Turkmenistan to expand study of Earth from space

Experts plan to deepen the study of the earth’s surface with help of new technologies.

On March 19, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers online. During the event, the leader of the country got acquainted with the work in the field of monitoring the earth’s surface, in particular from space, as reported by «Turkmenistan Today».

The report was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Bayramgeldy Ovezov. He outlined the vectors of activities aimed at creating a government commission to coordinate the national system for the study of the Earth’s surface. Special attention was paid to the formation of Derýaýollary OJSC.

The official stressed that within the tasks of development of the satellite communications, local specialists studied the possibilities of introducing new technologies in the field of collecting information on the earth’s surface from space. The focus was made on the necessity of training personnel in this direction.

Berdimuhamedov, in turn, directed to use full capacity of the satellite communication systems. He also ordered to keep in focus the launch of the 2nd national satellite.

It should be noted that the first Turkmen satellite Türkmen Älem 52°E was launched in April 2015. The device was built by the French company Thales Alenia Space.
