Tajikistan to open first-ever Hi-Tech Park

The Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan will create the Digital Transformation Council.

The Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan will create the Digital Transformation Council and open the first-ever Hi-Tech Park in the country. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Farhod Bilolzoda during an online conference with the University of Central Asia (UCA) and StrategEast, the press office of the University reports.

The Deputy Minister said the project would be aimed at adopting modern information technology solutions and providing rural areas with high-speed Internet access.

Bilolzoda invited UCA, development partners, entrepreneurs and NGOs to join the large-scale digital technology project.

General Director of Tajikistan’s largest mobile operator Tcell Ozodkhon Davlatshoev told about the problems created by the relief of Tajikistan and the difficulties in providing remote mountainous areas with high-speed Internet access.

A representative of the World Bank Jan-Peter Olters noted that Tajikistan was suffering from the high Internet cost and limited Internet access in rural areas, which constrained the growth of the Internet in the country and eventually hindered the country’s economic growth.

As was reported, as of January 2021, Tajikistan worsened its position in the rankings of countries by fastest mobile and fixed broadband speeds on the Speedtest Global Index.
