President of Turkmenistan holds a meeting with parliamentarians

The President specified the tasks set to members of Parliament in the epoch of might and happiness.

On February 25, the leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with deputies of Mejlis. The participants deliberated on the tasks set to Turkmen Parliament at the present stage of national development in the epoch of might and happiness, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reports.

The emphasis was placed on the development of Turkmenistan in 2021, the theme of which is Turkmenistan is the Homeland of Peace and Trust. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan was able to maintain the dynamics of economic growth despite the global economic slowdown caused by the pandemic.

The President said he expected parliamentarians to adopt the laws aimed at developing effective mitigation measures for environmental impacts of the shrinkage of the Aral Sea.

Particular attention was paid to stimulating investment activity, privatizing state property, creating joint stock companies and supplying Turkmen goods to the markets.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also highlighted the need to increase support to businesses and modernise the legal framework with the view of creating new jobs. The Turkmen leader emphasised that the important tasks of reducing urban-rural disparities and using digital technologies in various spheres of state activity were set at the present stage.

The leader of Turkmenistan noted that Turkmen Parliament must create a legal environment conducive to attracting investment, improving a business registration system and creating joint ventures. In this regard, deputies were tasked to draft the law on the state registration of legal entities.

The emphasis was placed on the need to modernise the laws on the creation of free economic zones and the fight against money laundering.

The Turkmen leader specified the main areas of parliamentary activity to ensure equal rights for men and women, promote family values and instil love for the Motherland in young people.

Highlighting the importance of preserving national traditions and culture, the President instructed to draft the law on creative unions.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasised that energy diplomacy played a key role in the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the Turkmen leader instructed parliamentarians to promote the development of innovative renewable energy technologies at the legislative level, in particular, to adopt the law on renewable energy sources.

The Turkmen leader highlighted the need to modernise the Law on Hunting and Hunting Management.

Focusing on the importance of the upcoming election to Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh, the President said the transition to a bicameral parliamentary system in Turkmenistan testifies to the triumph of the humanistic principle – “the state is for the people!”.

In this context, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed Parliament and political and public organisations to elucidate the importance of this political event to citizens, in particular through meetings and presentations on TV channels. The election will be held on March 28.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, “Forward, forward, only forward, my homeland – Turkmenistan”.

The Law On Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan came into force on January 1, 2021. In accordance with the law, Turkmen Parliament consists of two chambers: Halk Maslahaty (upper chamber) and Mejlis (lower chamber).
