Turkmenistan to take over ECO chairmanship

The online summit will focus on «Economic Cooperation in the Post-COVID-19 Period».

The President of Turkey sent a letter to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which states that the Summit of Heads of States of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will be held online on March 4, 2021. It will be dedicated to the topic «Economic Cooperation in the Post-COVID-19 Period.» Turkmenistan will take over the chairmanship of the organization, as reported by the «Neutral Turkmenistan» newspaper.

The Turkish President spoke about the measures taken to further strengthen the ECO and expand regional cooperation during his chairmanship. The issues of regional trade development, implementation of transport and logistics projects, improvement of the process of transformation, and analysis of budget data to increase the effectiveness of the organization’s vigorous activity were considered as well.

Special attention was paid to strengthening the cohesion and partnership of the ECO member states at the regional level and international economic platforms, and increasing their authority.

Erdogan thanked Berdimuhamedov and noted that the appointed meeting will provide an opportunity to consider the events that took place in 2020 in the context of the coronavirus pandemic and further work on economic recovery in the post-pandemic period.
