Ankara to host a meeting of foreign ministers of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey

Talks will focus on the ways of exporting Turkmen energy resources to Europe.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov will visit Ankara on February 22-24. He will take part in ministerial consultations and the trilateral dialogue of ministers of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan Today News Agency reports.

Meredov will pay an official visit on the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The ministers are expected to discuss cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors, as well as the ways of exporting Turkmen energy resources to Europe.

Particular attention will be paid to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan on exploration, development and exploration of the Dostluk hydrocarbon field in the Caspian Sea, which was signed on January 21 this year.

This document is an important step in reviving the Trans-Caspian energy project. This gas pipeline is the final link to start gas supplies from Turkmenistan to the EU countries, as the East-West pipeline stretches across Turkmenistan from the largest gas fields in the east of the country to the Caspian Sea coast, and Azerbaijan is connected to Europe by the Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline that was put into operation in October last year.

The Turkey authorities noted that the signing of the Memorandum would pave the way for the projects aimed at enhancing energy security of Turkey and the rest of Europe.
