Turkmenistan to speed up TAPI pipeline’s construction

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the prospects of TAPI pipeline’s construction with the newly appointed Ambassador of Pakistan.

On February 16, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Irfan Ahmed. The parties discussed a number of aspects of bilateral economic relations. The important issues under discussion included the TAPI project, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reported.

During the meeting, Irfan Ahmed conveyed the best wishes and cordial greetings on behalf of President Arif Alvi. The Ambassador presented his credentials to the leader of the country and expressed gratitude for the audience. The Pakistani diplomat emphasised that his country fully supported the ongoing reforms and policies in Turkmenistan, as well as the important international initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to build transcontinental energy and transport corridors jointly with the international associations.

The parties focused on speeding up construction work on the TAPI transnational gas pipeline. The project is aimed at reviving the Great Silk Road in a new, completely different capacity and improving the material and spiritual well-being of the peoples of Southeast Asia.

The President said the TAPI gas pipeline that would ensure long-term natural gas supplies to Southeast Asia would boost economic growth of the country, contribute to addressing social and humanitarian challenges and strengthen peace and stability in the region.

Noting that the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was interested in speeding up construction work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, TAP power lines and fibre optic cables, the diplomat said he firmly believed that the implementation of the project would contribute to enhancing economic cooperation on the regional and international level.
