Tajikistan and Russia to strengthen ties in economy, education and medicine

This was discussed at the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation.

On February 8-9, the Tajikistan-Russian Federation Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation held its 17th meeting in Moscow. The participants had discussed the key aspects of further partnerships in trade, education and medicine, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.

Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda headed the Tajikistan delegation. Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk headed the RF delegation. Talks focused on enhancing industrial cooperation. The emphasis was placed on the possibilities of establishing joint ventures in the Central Asian country.

The participants discussed an increase in supplies of eco-friendly agricultural products from Tajikistan to Russia by optimizing customs procedures. The parties agreed to increase freight volumes and consider the possibilities of resuming flight services between the two states as soon as possible.

The Tajikistan delegation dwelt on the legalisation of citizens of Tajikistan, who had committed minor administrative offences the Russian Federation and were  banned from entering the country. The participants also focused on attracting Russian tourists to the Republic.

The parties highly evaluated the progress of construction work on 5 Russian schools in Tajikistan. Particular attention was paid to the need to foster the exchange of experience among infectious disease experts.

The protocol was signed at the end of the meeting.
