Talks with Taliban delegation at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

During the meeting, it was noted that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan would fully support the implementation of the TAPI project and ensure the safety of the gas pipeline.

On February 6, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held talks with a delegation of the Taliban’s Political Office. The parties had discussed the political situation in Afghanistan and the aspects of the implementation of the TAPI and TAP projects, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov headed the Turkmenistan delegation, and Head of the Taliban’s Political Office Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar headed the Afghanistan delegation.

They highlighted the importance of restoring peace and stability in Afghanistan and noted that Turkmenistan had been providing assistance to the Republic in the energy, transport and communications sectors for many years.

A representative of the Taliban’s Political Office Mohammad Suhail Shaheen said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan would fully support the implementation of the projects of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan high-voltage power line and fiber optic cable and ensure their safety.

As was reported, on January 14, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan put into operation the Akina-Andkhoy railway, the Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan)-Akina (Afghanistan) and Serhetabat (Turkmenistan)-Turghundi (Afghanistan) fiber optic cables and the Kerki-Shiberghan power line.
