On February 5, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev had a meeting with Minister of Internal Affairs Yerlan Turgumbayev. The Minister reported on the work done in 2020 and the action plan for 2021, the press office of Akorda reports.
The Minister reported that criminal offenses had declined by 37%. Theft, robbery, plunder, hooliganism and violent crimes had dropped. Effective measures had been taken to ensure road safety on city streets and intercity highways. Road traffic accidents had decreased, and consequently, road traffic injuries and fatalities had declined.
The Ministry said 2021 was declared as the Year of Crime Prevention and informed the President in detail about the stages of dramatic reform in the bodies of internal affairs. In particular, the reform will aim to create the modern model of policing “a police within walking distance” and improve the district inspection system.
Reporting on the progress in introducing the Police 102 mobile application that allowed citizens to get quickly in contact with the police, the Minister said there had been positive results.
Turgumbayev said the targets of reform included personnel policy. New qualification requirements had been approved, and the measures would be taken to develop anti-corruption immunity, increase the efficiency of ideological activities and enhance a reputation.
The Minister reported on the reform in the correctional system. The measures will be taken to improve the living conditions of sentenced persons and their employment. Video surveillance systems will provide continuous coverage of correctional facilities.
Commenting on the report, the President highlighted the importance of implementing effectively the reform. The President instructed to increase pubic trust and confidence in the police. With the aim of responding to other threats, the President instructed to set up the most effective mechanism to address formidable challenges of our time.
