Umurzakov hold meetings to expand investments

The parties discussed the construction of a 1,500 MW combined-cycle thermal power plant worth 1.2 billion dollars based on the Syrdarya TPS.

On February 7, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held an online meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power company of Saudi Arabia Muhammad Abu Nayan. The sides considered the implementation of common projects, the subsequent improvement of investment cooperation in the field of improving energy sources, as well as the construction of a TPS with a capacity of 1500 MW in the territory of the republic, as reported by the press office of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Policy of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the issue of accelerating the construction of the station and projects aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in this area. Saudi Arabia has announced that the company plans to complete construction by the end of 2023 so that the station can start operations as soon as possible.

The representatives focused on the acceleration of design work aimed at the construction of two wind farms with a capacity of 1000 MW per year in the Bukhara and Navoiy regions, with a total cost of 1.3 billion dollars. The officials stressed that the commissioning of these facilities will generate 15.6 billion kWh of electricity per year, which will provide an opportunity to create more than 5 thousand jobs during construction and 300 new jobs during the operation of the stations.

In addition, the politicians exchanged views on the possible ways to develop investment cooperation in the field of alternative energy, aimed at building improved solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan. ACWA Power informed the Uzbek side that they intend to expand their investment presence in Uzbekistan through the implementation of modern large-scale projects.

It must be added that Uzurzakov also held a meeting with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Bandar Hajar. They discussed the organization and holding the 46th Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors in the republic and the implementation of the project for the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar trans-Afghan railway.
