Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discuss energy supplies

A project for the construction of a new power transmission line has been considered.

On February 1, Tashkent hosted a meeting between the heads of the energy department of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov and the secretariat of Afghan President Muhammad Shokir Korgar. The parties considered the process of energy supplies and the construction of a new power transmission line to Afghanistan. It was reported by the press office of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan on February 2. 

The Afghan politician noted that the country will take all necessary measures to carry out work on the construction of the 500 kV Surkhan-Puli-Khumri transmission line. According to Afghan representatives, the country’s leadership pays special attention to the timely implementation of the project items.

Muhammad Shokir Korgar praised the progress in the energy sector of Uzbekistan, aimed at increasing the volume of electricity production. Besides, he thanked the Uzbek government agency for the help in providing the country with electricity, as well as for creating conditions for getting higher education in Uzbekistan by citizens of Afghanistan.

The officials discussed the process of developing partnership projects, as well as new promising areas of mutually beneficial cooperation concerning the interests of both states.
