Plans to vaccinate foreign athletes reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

Foreign athletes who will take part in the World Track Cycling Championships and the Davis Cup Qualifier in Ashgabat will receive the vaccine.

On January 20, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Ashgabat Olympic Town. The Turkmen leader had inspected the progress in preparatory work for the World Track Cycling Championships and the Davis Cup Qualifier, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reported.

The Turkmen leader was informed that foreign athletes would be vaccinated against infectious diseases. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that many countries had started manufacturing the vaccines and suggested using Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine that had been registered in Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen leader highlighted the need to widen negotiations with other countries to smooth the process. He noted that athletes who may want to take other vaccines should have a choice. The Turkmen leader said that the shot would be free.

As was reported, Ashgabat would host the World Track Cycling Championships from 13 to 17 October. The Davis Cup Qualifier was scheduled to be played in Ashgabat on June 8-15, but the event was postponed to a later date, as the global epidemic situation remains unstable.
