Mass vaccination campaign in Kazakhstan to start on February 1

Citizens of the country will receive Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine that is currently undergoing quality testing.

On January 19, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin held an online meeting with the members of the newly elected Cabinet. The newly appointed ministers took a civil service oath. The agenda of the government meeting focused on the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the Republic and the start date of a mass vaccination campaign, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed CentralAsia.news.

Currently, six large regions of Kazakhstan are in the red zones in terms of COVID-19 incidence rates. The reproduction rate of coronavirus throughout the country stands at 1.1%. Bed occupancy at infectious disease hospitals is 32%, and that at resuscitation wards is 23%.

The officials reported that Phase III trials of the domestic vaccine QazCovid-in had been launched, and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine was undergoing quality testing. Construction work is underway on a biopharmaceutical plant that will produce drug products in compliance with GMP standards.

Noting that the most urgent step was to launch a mass vaccination campaign, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Health and akimats to prepare medical centres throughout the country by February 1 to vaccinate the population with Sputnik V.
