Turkmenistan to increase gas exports to China

The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov dwelt on this theme during a meeting with Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Qian Naicheng.

The Turkmen authorities intend to increase significantly natural gas exports to other countries. Most of ‘blue fuel’ will be exported to China. On January 12, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed this issue with Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Qian Naicheng, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reports.

The Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China transnational gas pipeline has a major role to play in delivering gas supplies. The pipeline transports many billion cubic metres of energy resources from the Malay gas field in the east of Turkmenistan.

The Malay gas compressor station with an annual capacity to supply 30 billion cubic metres will open in a few days. It will allow doubling exports of Turkmen ‘blue fuel’.

An expert at CentralAsia.news Ussa Ussaev noted that the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline had been operating stably for 11 years. He said that natural gas exports through this pipeline had totalled over 336 billion cubic meters since its launch in 2009.

‘Blue fuel’ is supplied to 27 provinces and autonomous regions of the People's Republic of China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The number of people who reside on these territories exceeds 500 million.

The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has been operating in Turkmenistan since 2002. It has implemented a number of major projects and stands among the dependable partners of Turkmenistan in the oil and gas industry.
