On January 13, Vice Mayor of Bishkek for Transport Policy Aziz Alymkulov spoke with the heads of private transport companies and minibus drivers on the issue of increasing fares, as reported by the press office of the Bishkek municipality.
Earlier the drivers asked to increase the fare for city minibusses due to the increase in prices for fuels and lubricants, spare parts, and food products. The drivers demanded to increase the relevant price from 10 to 15 soms, stating that it had not changed for 8 years. According to one of the transport workers, he used to fill the car for 350 soms, and today — for 700.
In turn, Alymkulov noted that the issue should be resolved in stages under the regulations and the legal framework.
The project must go through an examination, an analysis of the regulatory impact in the relevant authorities, receive a conclusion from a specialized commission. The most important issue should be considered by the townspeople within public discussions.
At the same time, the vice mayor warned that if public transport stops working, the mayor’s office will consider the issue of revoking licenses.
