Turkmenistan enhances cooperation with China and South Korea

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov dwelt on this theme during meetings with newly appointed Ambassadors of China and South Korea.

On January 5, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov received newly appointed Ambassadors of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea Qian Naicheng and Shin Sung-chul. The parties discussed the prospects for expanding interstate cooperation in various spheres, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

Meredov underscored Turkmenistan’s readiness to strengthen bilateral contacts with the People’s Republic of China in the political, economic and cultural spheres. Particular attention was paid to resuming regular contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The emphasis was also placed on the importance of building up cooperation within the UN.

During the meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, the Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the need to intensify bilateral relations in the fields of economy, energy, investment, trade, education, science, medicine and information technology. The parties noted the effective operations of Hyundai Engineering and LG International in the Turkmen market. Meredov dwelt on the important role of the Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum and the Korea-Central Asia Business Council.

As was reported, Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on the great prospects for strengthening bilateral contacts between Turkmenistan and South Korea in his video message to the International Forum for Northern Economic Cooperation in Seoul on October 30, 2020.
