President of Kazakhstan comments on provocations over territorial integrity

The leader of the Republic responded to the provocative statements over the borders of Kazakhstan.

On January 5, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev appeared with an article "Nothing is More Precious than Independence" on the pages of the Egemen Qazaqstan Newspaper. In his article, the leader of Kazakhstan focuses on the territorial integrity of Kazakhstan.

Dwelling on some kinds of activities, the leader of the country wrote, “Historians, not politicians, should deal with history”. The President launched into a digression on the past. He reminded that the history of the nation dated back to the epoch of the Huns and the Sakas. It existed in the glorious times of the Kazakh Khanate, the Golden Horde and the Turkic Khaganate.

Noting that the borders were delineated and reflected in the international treaty a long time ago, the President stated the indisputable facts. Tokayev said that no one could dispute the geographic boundaries of Kazakhstan recognized by the world community.

In this context, the President said that some foreign citizens were striving to damage good neighbourly relations and cast a shadow of doubt on the territorial location of Kazakhstan. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the national interests must be upheld, and awareness raising activities would continue unswervingly at the public and high levels to stop all provocative actions.

The news media of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported that in mid-December, the representatives of the RF Parliament Vyacheslav Nikonov and Yevgeniy Fyodorov emphasised that “the territory of Kazakhstan is a gift from Russia”.
