Low temperature anomalies are forecast in Kazakhstan

Meteorological Service of Kazakhstan urges citizens to be careful of harsh weather.

The meteorological services of the Republic of Kazakhstan predict low temperature anomalies, fogs, snowstorms and blizzard conditions across parts of the country, starting from January 4. Extreme weather events are expected to hit North Kazakhstan, Almaty and Pavlodar regions, the Kazhydromet website reports.

Weather forecasters caution citizens of Nur-Sultan that they will see winds of up to 7 m/s and temperatures falling over the next few days to be -20 °C. Nighttime lows of -29 °C look possible.

The winter has showed ‘leniency’ towards citizens of Almaty, where strong winds are expected to reach 5 m/s and bring in cold air, which will see a drop in daytime temperatures to -10 °C. Widespread frost and nighttime minimum temperatures of -19 °C are expected.

A spell of bitterly cold weather is forecast across Pavlodar region, where air temperatures will drop up to -31 °C at times. Nighttime temperatures will drop up to -40 °C. Petropavlovsk will see mainly cloudy conditions with no precipitation. There is the potential for wind gusts of 14 m/s across the region. Storm force winds combined with a 23 °C frost can cause significant disruption, weather forecasters caution.

In Ust-Kamenogorsk, the weather remains frosty. In the region, daytime temperatures are about -32 °C, and nighttime temperatures are -38 °C.
