Expert reveals scenarios for transit of power in Tajikistan

The head of the MGIMO Analytical Center, Kazantsev, noted that Rahmon will most likely hand over power to his son in 7 years.

On October 14, the head of the MGIMO Analytical Center, Andrey Kazantsev in an interview to INA Sputnik, spoke about the scenarios for the transit of power in Tajikistan. According to him, Emomali Rahmon, who has been elected president for the 5th time, will most likely hand over power to his son in the future.

Kazantsev stressed that amid the recently held political event, people have a question regarding Rakhmon’s running for the post of the head of the state in 7 years. The doctor of political sciences said that in this case a transit of power is possible and that can be realized the same as it has been done within the Kazakh and Azerbaijani scenarios.

According to the expert, the most likely outcome of events is the hand over of the reins to the chairman of the upper house of parliament, Rustam Emomali. At the same time, the right moment when the country will have a stable economy must be chosen. Kazantsev noted that today the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the economy of the republic. Moreover, there is still an unstable situation in neighboring Afghanistan, added the head of the MGIMO Analytical Center.

It must be added that the presidential elections in Tajikistan took place on October 11. According to the country’s CEC, about 3.85 million (90.92%) of the votes were won by Emomali Rahmon. According to international observer Yevgeny Kudryats such a result was predictable.
