Expert Kudryats names reason for revolutionary situation in Kyrgyzstan

The interviewee believes that the situation in Kyrgyzstan significantly differs from the Belarusian one.

The parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan had a peculiarity: they did not involve the ruling party or organization that the president would support. However, the results of the voting were truly fantastic. Hardly anyone, apart from the hypothetical organizers of street rallies, could have guessed that after October 4, the third revolution since the independence of the republic would take place. In an interview to CentralAsia.news independent expert Yevgeny Kudryats commented on the consequences of the parliamentary elections.

The reason for people’s anger

It should be considered that the authorities «allowed» protesters to do a lot of things. Nobody stopped them while trying to take over the buildings of the highest state bodies. Even the detention facility of the State Committee for National Security did not resist. As a result, the crowd released ex-president Almazbek Atambayev, who was sentenced to a long term. All this happened quite rapidly. It is not Belarus, where the protest movement quickly became sluggish, especially since the Kyrgyz authorities did not use force to pacify the crowd — no special forces and military personnel with special equipment. Perhaps officials in Bishkek were a little confused because no one expected such a scenario.

Expert Yevgeny Kudryats also believes that hardly anyone could predict such a thing. According to him the reason for the situation is that the population turned out to be dissatisfied with the results of the elections. According to the people, the democratic process was accompanied by bribery and machinations.

— It was the disagreement with the election results that triggered the protests. According to official figures, about 50 percent of voters voted for the pro-government parties Birimdik and Mekenim Kyrgyzstan. Mainly, the deputies, who in the previous convocation represented the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDPK), entered the parliament, — said the interviewee.

However, it is worth taking a look at these parties «even wider». The expert drew attention to the fact that Birimdik which took the 1st place was headed by the brother of the current president Sooronbai Jeenbekov — Asylbek. The party Mekenim Kyrgyzstan, which is supervised by the person involved in a high-profile corruption scandal, Raimbek Matraimov, stayed behind it.

Kudryats noted a small peculiarity. Although the SDPK was split, it did not prevent Atambayev from being released. The expert added that supporters of the ex-leader of Kyrgyzstan wait for revenge, although the ex-president himself is unlikely to seriously affect the political constituencies.

Answering the question of why the authorities did not suppress the protests, the expert names two possible reasons: either they could not, or they did not want to.

— I think that the authorities simply did not dare to harshly suppress protest actions, fearing an escalation of the conflict, given the events of recent events. The republic is already ready for the renewal of the elites. Comparison of the events in Kyrgyzstan with the Belarusian ones are not correct, since the Belarusians do not have the same experience as the Kirghiz, — explained Kudryats.

Without intervention

Several analysts, politicians, and the media have repeatedly stressed that Western countries make the situation in the CIS member states look worse than it is to alienate them from Russia, to make them a kind of «sanitary belt».  Considering  Belarus they say that there is support for dissent from Lithuania and Poland, and in Kyrgyzstan, everything is different. The expert believes that the Central Asian republic can handle the situation without outside help.

— Some experts consider a version of foreign intervention in the events in Kyrgyzstan. I believe that there is no need to look for a foreign influence there and put forward conspiracy theories. It is totally internal, not related to other states, — highlighted the interviewee.

He reminded that in Kyrgyzstan, according to the unanimous decision on canceling the election results, the CEC is much less dependent on the head of the state than in Belarus.

— At the meeting all the 11 CEC members unanimously supported the proposal. It demonstrates that, unlike Belarus, the CEC in Kyrgyzstan is less dependent on the president. In the current situation, everything points to new elections, but now they must be held differently — without falsifications and «throw», — added expert.
