Uzbekistan to use Pakistani ports for cargo transportation

Over the past years, Uzbekistan has been actively developing projects for international trade routes to get access to Pakistani seaports.

On September 10, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov negotiated with the Minister of Maritime Affairs of Pakistan Ali Haider Zaidi in Islamabad within the official visit to the country. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the MIFT on September 11.

The parties discussed the development of transport and logistics potential and the expansion of bilateral cooperation. Attention was paid to the increase in cargo transportation through the territories of the two states, as well as the implementation of joint projects aimed at the development of transport infrastructure.

In this regard, the ministers agreed to provide markets of the two countries with Uzbek and Pakistani goods. They noted that it will stimulate trade over.

The Pakistani side expressed its readiness to provide consulting and technical assistance for Uzbekistan to use the developed infrastructure of the Gwadar, Karachi, and Kasym seaports. It was noted that Uzbek transport experts will arrive in Pakistan soon.

The politicians also agreed to create a working group to develop and agree on mechanisms of inscreasing the flow of Uzbek and Pakistani goods at the local markets. It also includes wide access for Uzbekistan to Pakistani seaports in the Indian Ocean.

Besides, Umurzakov met with the adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on trade, textile industry, and investment, Abdul Razak Davud. The parties considered the construction of an Uzbek-Pakistani investment and logistics trading house in Tashkent, focused on the transportation of Uzbek export goods to Pakistan and the organization of the delivery of Pakistani goods to Uzbekistan.

At the same time, they agreed to hold the next meeting of the Uzbek-Pakistani intergovernmental commission in Tashkent in November 2020.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan also met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. They discussed the prospects of participation of Pakistan in the trilateral negotiations Afghanistan-Uzbekistan-USA.
