Tajikistan to celebrate Independence Day without concerts and festivities

The government decided to cancel all performances by Tajik singers due to the pandemic.

This year in Dushanbe, the Independence Day of Tajikistan will be celebrated without concerts and mass festivities. The decision was made by the government of the republic due to the spread of COVID-19. It was reported by the ASIA-Plus news agency on August 25.

The Cabinet highlighted that all concerts of famous Tajik artists at the state institution «Navruzgokh» which are held annually on the holiday will be canceled. Officials underlined that any mass gatherings would be restricted. Work staff who wants to celebrate the event will have to strictly follow the sanitary regulations.

It should be added that the Independence Day of Tajikistan is celebrated on September 9. The republic received political independence back in 1991.

This year due to the pandemic the local authorities have also prohibited the massive celebrations of the major Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha. Citizens were recommended to pray at home.

As of August 25, 2020, Tajikistan reported 8379 coronavirus cases. In total, 67 people died because of the infection, 85,6% of patients recovered.
