Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan to expand ties in logistics

The attention will be attached to creating an efficient transnational transport corridor.

On July 27 representatives of the trilateral working group on the development of partnership in the transport and communication sphere between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan discussed strengthening ties in logistics. The development of an efficient transport corridor was in the spotlight. It was reported by «Turkmenistan Today» on July 28.

As a part of the videoconference, the parties touched upon the implementation of the project of the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to create a single logistics center. The officials discussed the possibility of forming an agency that will coordinate the logistics activities of three countries.

Attention was attached to the pricing policy for cargo transportation. Civil servants noted the importance of the reduction of transit tariffs and the provision of free services for the storage of freight. The Turkmen representatives expressed its readiness in the future to decrease prices for using open and closed warehouses for Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, unloading and loading operations for the member states of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev presented a draft roadmap for expanding cooperation between the three countries in trade, investment, energy, transport and communication, customs and border spheres.

It should be mentioned that the working group was created at the initiative of Berdimuhamedov during a video meeting with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and head of the IRA Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on July 2. The presidents discussed partnership in the field of transport and economy.
