Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined that the message about the possible presence of COVID-19 in Turkmenistan is a fake.
On June 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan completely denied information from the US Embassy about the possible presence of coronavirus infection in the country. The state body noted that the corresponding message is an absolute fake, as reported by the press office of the MFA.
The US diplomatic mission published the news telling that several Turkmen citizens with COVID-19 symptoms after being tested were quarantined for up to 14 days. According to the embassy, people are sent to infectious diseases hospitals at their expense.
The Turkmen Foreign Ministry marked that this information has nothing to do with real facts. Moreover, the officials emphasized inconsistency and bias of such reports.
The employees of the MFA noted all information on preventing the spread of a new coronavirus in Turkmenistan is provided at the regular briefings. The Foreign Ministry underlined that representatives of the US embassy do not participate in these press conferences.
It must be added that the last briefing took place on June 19. During the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov spoke about the current COVID-19 situation in Turkmenistan. He highlighted that at the moment no cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection are reported in the country. Besides, the official said that WHO experts will visit Turkmenistan in early July.
