UNRCCA announces contest “Youth voices from Central Asia”

Young people will have to present their vision of the world in 25 years through an essay.

UNRCCA announced the essay contest “Youth voices from Central Asia” on June 1. Within the project, young citizens will have to present their vision of the world in 25 years. The best works will be published on the UN website.

The competition from the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is open to persons between the ages of 18 to 35. Young people must be citizens of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. This category also includes foreign citizens who study in the territory of these states.

The UNRCCA asked the young generation to think about the future of the world in 25 years (100 years since the UN was founded). It is also important to present the ideas on the importance of preventive diplomacy, peace, and security in the region. The work should reflect the issues of one of the areas of activity of the United Nations Security Council.

The competition is a great opportunity to share ideas including a critical approach to the most influential people in the world. Winners' essays will be published in 2 languages (English and Russian) as a book. It will be presented to world leaders and senior UN representatives in September 2020 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the organization. E-version of the book will be available on the UNRCCA website.

The relevant application for participation must be submitted on the website by July 31, 2020.

It must be added that the competition is a part of the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy project. The main goal of this program is to strengthen cooperation and trust between the residents of Central Asian countries and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
