Berdimuhamedov and Putin discuss COVID-19 situation

The heads of the states touched upon the development of a joint complex program to fight the pandemic.

On May 12, presidents of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin discussed the main directions of mutual relations in the fight against coronavirus. The topic was touched upon as a part of telephone conversation. It was reported to by "Turkmenistan today".

During the talks, the leaders of the countries congratulated each other on the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Berdimuhamedov thanked his colleague for sending a delegation of the Russian Ministry of Defense to Turkmenistan as part of the celebration of the significant date. 

The Turkmen leader thanked Putin for delivering a copy of the Victory Banner and the original combat banner of the 748th Infantry Regiment of the 206th Division of the 2nd Ukrainian Front to the country.

The main topic of the discussion was the intergovernmental work on combating coronavirus. Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to the Russian authorities for providing test systems to medical agencies. He also highlighted that Turkmenistan is ready to provide appropriate assistance to the Russian Federation.

The parties agreed that it is necessary to expand cooperation between countries in the fight against infectious diseases and the integration of international health rules. Berdimuhamedov put forward an initiative to develop a joint action plan to counter the pandemic.

It must be added that before the heads of the states had telephone conversation on February 18, 2020. During those talks, the parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the political, trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
