Turkmenistan to expand relations with UN in the field of environmental protection

The relevant initiative was undertaken by the head of the MFA at the government session.

The Turkmen authorities plan to expand the cooperation with the UN in the field of environmental protection. The initiative was presented by Rashid Meredov, the minister of foreign affairs, within the framework of the government session on March 26. It was reported by “Golden age”.

The head of the MFA proposed to join the Bonn Convention on Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, the UNEP Agreement on the Protection of African - Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds and Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Create Ozone Holes.

The head of the state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted the environmental protection is closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals. He outlined that Turkmenistan actively cooperates with a number of international and regional organizations in order to develop effective solutions for the relevant issue. 

Today the country is a participant of 20 multilateral international documents in the sphere of environmental preservation. The participants of the session stressed that maintaining ecological balance in Turkmenistan and abroad is an integral part of the state policy. They have also mentioned that the country widely uses modern green technologies. 

The president approved Meredov’s initiative and gave the head of the MFA instructions on further work in the corresponding direction.
