The international community discussed the conservation of the snow leopard population at a worldwide conference that took place on July, 3-4th, in the city of Nur Sultan. Representatives of world funds and international organizations, as well as scientists from 12 countries, gathered there, Yunews.kz.
According to the founder of the Snow Leopard Foundation who has organized the conference, they are holding a dialogue with experts from the UN Development Programme now. The discussion concerns the creation of a single worldwide information center in Kazakhstan which will combine all the scientific statistics on snow leopards.
«Another specific project that we are ready to launch in Nur-Sultan is the establishment of a single international ounce genetic laboratory, » Nurali Aliyev said.
About three percent of the whole snow leopard population lives inside the territory of Kazakhstan. Since 1976, the snow leopard is included in the Red Data Book of Kazakhstan. This rare punctuated predator is one of the national symbols of the country.
