Tokayev hears report from Chairman of Financial Monitoring Agency

On January 8, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a meeting with Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency Zhanat Elimanov, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

The interlocutors discussed the work done by the Agency in 2024 and the short-term plans. The implementation of the 2023-2025 Action Plan to Combat the Shadow Economy has made it possible to reduce it by 1,3%. In 2024, the Agency investigated 1,312 criminal cases, compensated damages of 236.8 billion tenge and confiscated criminal proceeds of 152.3 billion tenge.

«The President of Kazakhstan was informed about the shut-down of 3 large drug stash houses following the joint special operations with the financial intelligence units of Belarus and Russia,» the press office added.

The Agency initiated investigations against 21 criminal groups, shut down 42 financial pyramids and blocked about 15,000 scam websites and chats. It prevented financial losses of 2 million citizen, detected 41 online casinos and 30 illegal gambling businesses, saved budget expenditures of 120 billion tenge and shut down 36 illegal crypto exchanges. The President ordered the work in key areas continue.
