On November 26, the Permanent Representatives of Tajikistan and Maldives to the UN signed an intergovernmental agreement on mutual visa exemption in New York. The document will allow citizens of the two countries to stay for up to 30 days in the other state without a visa, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
The agreement, signed by Jonibek Hikmat from Tajikistan and Ali Naseer Mohamed from the Maldives, provides for mutual exemption from entry, exit and transit visas.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the document will enter into force 30 days after the necessary domestic procedures are completed.
The open-ended agreement illustrates the aspiration of the two countries for long-term cooperation. Mutual visa exemption is expected to contribute to boosting tourism ties and strengthening interstate cooperation.
