President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented a large-scale development programme of the region at the meeting on the development of Samarkand Region. Despite the progress in the trade, manufacturing, transport, tourism and agricultural industries, the region is ready to reach new frontiers, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
The key projects include the creation of a special industrial zone on a 234-hectare site on the territory of Chimboyobod village in Pastdargom district. The khokimiyat has this site in reserve. Entrepreneurs are ready to invest $500 million in a special economic zone and launch projects in the pharmaceutical, chemical, electrical engineering, building materials and food industries.
The construction of a 35-kilometre tourist route along the Dargom Canal and a gastronomic bridge on the Narpay Canal, which would attract 500 billion soums in investment, was discussed at the meeting. It is planned to build a tourist and recreational zone on a 350-hectare site in Samarkand Region, which will create 3,500 new jobs.
Particular attention is paid to encouraging agricultural development. 6,000 hectares of grain land in Bulungur Region will be reoriented to fruit and vegetable cultivation, which will create 45,000 new jobs and bring export revenue of $52 million.
