Tajikistan is reaching a new level in combating climate change through cooperation with the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN). The talks on the introduction of advanced technological solutions, including artificial intelligence systems, into the climate change monitoring practice were held on the sidelines of the COP29 Climate Change Conference in Baku, the press office of the Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan reported.
The representatives of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan, headed by Kurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, and the experts from the UN Environment Programme identified priority areas for technological cooperation during a meeting. A real-time AI-based precipitation monitoring network is the key project.
The focus will be on developing early warning mechanisms for extreme weather events and creating an integrated risk map. To ensure the effective operation of the new networks, CTCN will conduct special training programmes on the use of artificial intelligence for meteorological forecasting for Tajik specialists.
This initiative is part of Tajikistan’s large-scale programme aimed at meeting its obligations under the Paris Agreement and demonstrates Tajikistan’s commitment to implementing innovative solutions to combat climate change.
