President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the First Forum of Agricultural Workers, which was organised to celebrate the professional holiday of agricultural workers. According to the press office of the President of Kazakhstan, the event marked the 70th anniversary of the Virgin Lands campaign. The Virgin Lands campaign enabled Kazakhstan to become one of the world’s breadbaskets. Today, the country ranks among the largest wheat and flour exporters.
«Though this year turned out to be difficult, we were able to reap a record harvest over the past decade — 26.7 million tonnes of grain,» Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said.
The President noted that consistent measures have contributed to reducing inflation and increasing the economic growth rate by over 4%. He set the main goal of transforming agriculture into an advanced industry. Priorities include financing, technology, science, equipment modernisation and export expansion.
