Tajikistan announced its plans to become a green country by 2037, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.
President Emomali Rahmon presented an ambitious strategy at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku. He emphasised the importance of transition to renewable energy.
“We are set to achieve 100% renewable energy generation in the country by 2032 and turn Tajikistan into a green country by 2037,” Emomali Rahmon said.
The President noted that Tajikistan currently produces 98% of its electrical energy from hydropower, and the level of greenhouse gas emissions remains low in the country that ranks 130th in the world. Rahmon stressed that countries must step up efforts to tackle threats of climate change and provide financial assistance to developing countries for climate change adaptation.
