Uzbekistan and the United States completed bilateral negotiations on the Republic’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan on WTO issues Azizbek Urunov made this statement, Gazeta.uz reports.
The United States is the 21st state on the list of countries with which Uzbekistan has completed successfully the WTO accession negotiations. Urunov noted that agreements were reached after 14 months of intensive negotiations, which became possible thanks to the active position of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the well-coordinated work of government agencies.
A protocol of market access is currently under preparation. In September this year, the Republic reached similar agreements with 18 countries, among which the agreements with Brazil and Sri Lanka stand out.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of joining the WTO during the meeting with the business community in August, where he called this decision a strategic step within ongoing reforms, noting that the country needs to move away from protectionist policies for the further development.
