Tajikistan plans to introduce 10-point grading scale in schools

Tajikistan has partially introduced a 10-point grading scale in schools. 140 schools throughout the country have been piloting this format of knowledge assessment since September 1, 2024, Sputnik reports.

The Ministry will evaluate the effectiveness of the grading scale based on the results of this academic year and decide either to introduce or to cancel it. The Ministry explained that the grades from 10 to 8 mean excellent, 7 and 6 – good, from 5 to 3 – satisfactory and 2 and 1 – bad.

The expanded grading system is expected will help teachers make a more accurate assessment of knowledge in schoolchildren.

The Tajik authorities approved the criteria of 10-point scores to access knowledge, skills and abilities in students at general education institutions. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, this assessment system is introduced as the country is entering the global education space.

One of the aims of the new practice is to determine the actual level of knowledge, motivate and prepare schoolchildren for the next stages of education.

According to available data, Tajikistan is improving the quality of school education with every passing year. 85.4% of educational programmes are implemented, showing a 1.5% increase compared with the same period a year ago.
