Kyrgyzstan and UK forge ties to fight corruption

Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan Maksat Asanaliev and UK Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan Nicholas Bowler held a meeting in Bishkek. The meeting focused on key aspects of bilateral legal cooperation, the press office of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Emphasising the importance of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UK, Asanaliev noted that the two countries share the values of the rule of law and the protection of human rights.

Particular attention was paid to the fight against corruption and the return of stolen assets. The Prosecutor General expressed gratitude to the UK for the willingness to provide assistance in this area and underscored the significant potential for further cooperation.

The interlocutors considered exchanging experience and practical developments in law enforcement, emphasising that this would contribute to improving work efficiency of law enforcement agencies and building trust between the legal systems of the two countries.

The parties plan to conclude an interstate agreement on legal assistance in criminal cases, which will help to more effectively respond to new threats and challenges of transnational crime.
