Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan calls on pharmaceutical companies to drive prices down

Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Akmaral Alnazarova held a meeting on the procurement of medicines and medical products in 2025. The representatives of the local pharmaceutical companies and major distributors attended the meeting, the press office of the Ministry of Health reported.

Alnazarova emphasised that health care spending is a key indicator of the national socio-economic policy. The Minister underscored the importance of ensuring access of all citizens to medical care and medicines.

«Before the procurement campaign starts, it is important to make sure that the manufacturers’ medicine price is acceptable and affordable. At the same time, the local distribution mark-ups should remain within the regressive mark-ups,» Akmaral Alnazarova said.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, generic or biosimilar medicines are sometimes more expensive than original brand-name medicines.

«The Minister of Health called on the pharmaceutical companies to fulfil social responsibility and revise prices downwards,» the press office reported.
