Only 14% of water supply services paid for in Tajikistan for 6 months

The Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation of Tajikistan supplied 1.81 billion cubic metres of water for a total of 87.2 million somoni to citizens of the Republic in the first half of 2024. However, only 14% of water supply services have been paid for, Director of the Agency Zafarbek Davlatzoda reported at the press conference on July 25, Asia-Plus reported.

Davlatzoda emphasised that timely payments for water supply services are critical to developing Tajikistan’s water supply sector. He said these payments help prepare irrigation systems in time for the agricultural season and supply irrigation water to consumers.

At the moment, 12.2 million somoni have been paid.

The Director of the Agency noted that there is currently no lack of irrigation water in Tajikistan. The problems with Aksu and Khojabakirgan canals from the past have been solved, and the situation has improved.
