On July 22, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov attended the opening ceremony of the Kainama small hydropower plant during his working visit Jalal-Abad Region. Speaking at the event, he noted that the launch of new power plants has a positive impact on Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.
«The energy issue that has long been one of the key problems of the national economy is now being solved through launching new energy facilities,» the President said.
Construction of a hydropower plant in Toktogul district of Jalal-Abad Region began in November 2023. It has the total capacity of 9.6 MW. It is planned that the Kainama hydropower plant will generate 39.2 million kWh annually. This will meet electricity needs of Uch-Terek aiyl okmotu and some districts of Kara-Kul town.
The President expressed belief that the power plant will significantly improve the energy situation in the country. He emphasised that capacity expansion of hydropower plants is a key priority for the Kyrgyz authorities. Furthermore, the agreements on the implementation of similar projects on the Orto-Tokoy and Papan water storage reservoirs were signed.
