In Ashgabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held an online meeting with the heads of United Nations agencies in the country and regional UN structures. The official proposed to consider the possibility of finding new areas of cooperation. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the MFA of Turkmenistan.
Attention was paid to the prospects for increasing the representation of the organization and its structures in the Central Asian state. Representatives of UN agencies supported the relevant recommendations.
The parties discussed issues of further cooperation in such areas as sustainable transport, digitalization, combating climate change, protecting the environment, reducing greenhouse emissions, rationalizing the use of water resources, respecting human rights, education, medicine, resolving issues of refugees and stateless persons, safety, preservation of cultural values. The participants of the meeting also agreed to expand the work of United Nations specialized programs in Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by representatives of UNDCO, UNESCO, UNHCR, UNISDR, UNDP, UNODC, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, UNRCCA.
