Sadyr Japarov and Charles Michel discuss Afghanistan crisis

On June 3, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and President of the European Council Charles Michel adopted a Joint Press Statement following the talks. The document says that the parties are committed to boosting close security cooperation. In this regard, they highlighted the need to prevent a humanitarian and socio-economic crisis in Afghanistan, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

In this context, they recognized the efforts of the international community to provide aid to the people of Afghanistan on a principled basis and in accordance with international law and universally recognized norms and principles, despite difficult circumstances.

The interlocutors called on the international community to intensify humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan and noted the key role of the UN in providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan on a principled basis.

They noted the need to strengthen cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union to address existing, new and emerging challenges, as set forth in the EU Strategy on Central Asia and in line with universal principles.
