On May 17, Minister of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov, who is leading the Uzbek delegation to Switzerland, met with Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Bruno Oberle, the press office of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan reported.
The interlocutors noted the advances in cooperation after Uzbekistan had joined the IUCN and discussed preparatory work for promising projects aimed at preventing zoonotic diseases, improving protected area management and conserving biodiversity and ecosystems in the country.
The IUCN Director General informed about the positive decision on the opening of a representative office of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Tashkent. The office is expected to open by the end of the year.
Bruno Oberle accepted the invitation to take part in the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, which will be held in Samarkand in October, and expressed his readiness to attend the regional seminar «Scaling up nature-based solutions for sustainable landscapes in Central Asia», which will be held in Tashkent in June.
