President Tokayev takes part in Victory Day celebration

On May 9, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev attended a military parade on Red Square in honour of the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War during his visit to the capital of the Russian Federation, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reports.

Together with the Kazakh leader and RF President Vladimir Putin, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan attended the parade on Red Square in Moscow.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.

On May 8, the President of Kazakhstan arrived in Tver Region, where he visited the Rzhev Memorial. The Kazakh leader laid a wreath of flowers at the monument to the fallen soldiers and observed a minute of silence to honour their memory.

The Battle of Rzhev is one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. Together with the wounded and missing, the losses by the Red Army in these battles totalled around 1.3 million people.

On the way to the Rzhev Memorial, President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev visited Trubino village, where he laid flowers at a mass grave. The uncle of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym Boltaev is among those killed in the battles near this village.
