72 schools in Kazakhstan to be built with forfeited proceeds of corruption

The Government of Kazakhstan approved the amendments, which will allow spending the forfeited proceeds of corruption on launching high-tech enterprises, building schools and hospitals and implementing social projects. The Education Infrastructure Support Fund has received more than 120 billion tenge (about 20 billion rubbles), MIR 24 reports.

The additional financing will help solve the problems of three-shift schooling, emergency schools and a shortage of school places. There are about 150 three-shift schools, and more than 500 school buildings are in poor condition in the Republic. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev instructed that the forfeited proceeds of corruption will be spend on building schools. 72 schools will be built with forfeited proceeds.

In recent years, Kazakhstan has been tough on bribery. In 2022, more than 600 billion tenge, or about 100 billion rubbles, including illegally exported assets, were returned to the state budget. It is proposed to hang special signs on the schools built with the forfeited proceeds of corruption.
