Kyrgyzstan calls on Central Asian countries to support its initiatives on climate conservation

Chairman of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development Amankan Kenzhebaev took part in the 9th Meeting of Foreign Ministers and Parliamentarians of the Central Asian states, which was held in Tashkent, the press office of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan reported.

An exchange of views on the improvement of national climate change legislation, the implementation of climate policy and progress in the implementation of the climate commitments, the achievements of each country at the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-27) and preparations for COP-28, which will be held in the UAE in December 2023, took place.

In his speech, the head of the Kyrgyz delegation noted that Kyrgyzstan as a mountainous country is one of the states most vulnerable to climate change. He made presentation on the steps taken to conserve the climate.

Noting that the Kyrgyz side plans to set up an inter-parliamentary group of mountainous countries and a parliamentary group «Friends of the Mountains», the parliamentarian called on his counterparts from Central Asia to support these initiatives.
