President of Turkmenistan signs decree on pardoning 463 citizens

On the occasion of Gadyr gijesi (the holy night for Muslims during the month of Ramadan), at the government meeting, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on pardoning 463 convicted persons. The leader of the country noted that those who repented of their deeds are released from places of detention, as reported by «Turkmenistan today».

Berdimuhamedov instructed Secretary of the State Security Council, Minister of Defense Begench Gundogdyev to take all necessary measures to ensure that the pardoned citizens are with their families as soon as possible. Heads of regional, district and city administrations were given instructions regarding the mandatory employment of citizens released from penitentiary institutions.

The president of Turkmenistan wished the pardoned persons to make a worthy contribution to the development of the Central Asian country, as well as to engage in honest work.

The relevant pardons have been granted in the state regularly since 1999. The decrees are signed several times a year, and they are timed to coincide with major national holidays. In 2022, the number of citizens released from places of detention on the occasion of Gadyr gijesi amounted to 514 people.
